Liechtenstein: a small country with large views

Often tourists who are planning a holiday in Europe, bypass the state of Liechtenstein, and do it in vain. Despite its miniature, this country harbors a lot of interesting things - there is ancient architecture, modern ski slopes, as well as an abundance of entertainment for lovers of fun and "delicious" to spend time.

Liechtenstein is a dwarf state, its area is 160 square kilometers, which, for example, is 15 times smaller than the area of Moscow. The country is bordered by Austria in the east, and Switzerland surrounds the rest. This country received its name in honor of the ancient princely dynasty ruling here. The official language is German and diplomatic interests are represented by Switzerland.

On the small territory of Liechtenstein fit three different geographical areas - in the south-east it is the alpine hills, in the west - the fertile floodplain of the Rhine River, in the north - picturesque mountain valleys. The climate of the country is alpine, moderately continental., while the average temperature in lowland areas in winter is about 0 ° C, in summer - 20 ° C, in mountainous areas in winter - 10 ° C, in summer - 15 ° C. Winter and autumn are a time of precipitation, but they do not interfere with rest - you can enjoy the beauty of mountain landscapes here all year round.

How to get there

You can get to Liechtenstein via Zurich (Switzerland), as the country does not have its own airport. From Moscow, you can fly there by Aeroflot or Swiss Airlines. Then you need to make a transfer to the train of the Swiss Federal Railways - they run to the border towns of Bux and Zargans, from where to Liechtenstein by bus at hand - 15 minutes and you are on the spot.

It should be noted that Russian citizens will need a Schengen C visa and insurance to travel to Liechtenstein. A visa can be obtained at the Swiss Consulate.

Where to stay

Hotels in Liechtenstein are not very many, and they are located mainly in the capital of the state Vaduz, or close to attractions and ski slopes. Interestingly, there are no well-known world hotel chains in Liechtenstein, and hotels are often old mansions, converted for tourists, cottages and family homes.

The only hostel in the country is located near Vaduz, but it operates only in the summer. Liechtenstein – the country is quite expensive, so the rest here will be very expensive – the average price per night in the hotel – 12-15 thousand rubles, but the prices correspond to the quality – infrastructure and service here is always at the top.

What to see.

Liechtenstein is so miniaturized that sights are found here literally at every step, and to get acquainted with everyone, just a couple or three days are enough. It is best to start your trip in Liechtenstein from the capital - the city of Vaduz. This is where the main attractions are located.

The first thing that fascinates this small town is the medieval architecture, which is preserved here in all its splendor. Above the capital rises Vaduz Castle – the residence of the ruling dynasty. It is not so easy to get inside - only at certain hours, showing only a few of the best rooms and an art gallery of the prince. But outside you can walk as much as you like - from the tops of the castle there is a magnificent view of the alpine peaks.

Another pearl of architecture is the Cathedral of St. Florin. It is located far from the main attractions, and the Gothic spire of its tower can be safely called the symbol of Vaduz.

In Vaduz you can visit the National Museum and the Museum of Postage stamps, an ancient winery, the Museum of calculators and typewriters, the State Art Collection and the Museum of Art of Liechtenstein. And just a walk through the streets of this ancient town can bring pleasure - old houses, small churches, Gothic sculptures allow you to feel the spirit of medieval Europe.

Vaduz, although the capital, is second in size to the city of Shan. Here is the oldest building in the country – the Church of St. Petra, the foundation of which was laid in the V century. In the neighborhood there is a theater, productions of which are very popular throughout Europe, as well as several nightclubs and restaurants. In addition, it is the only railway station in Liechtenstein, from which trains depart to neighboring Switzerland.

The small towns of Liechtenstein will undoubtedly conquer tourists with well-preserved medieval buildings and historical monuments, among which there are ancient monasteries, chapels, fortresses of the Roman Empire and even the remains of Neolithic settlements.

Liechtenstein also attracts picturesque nature, because its territory is three-quarters covered by the Alps. In winter, you can go skiing here, and in summer you can walk to the peaks of the Alps. In addition, Liechtenstein has a large number of bicycle and roller trails that pass through the most beautiful places in the country.

Malbun - the only ski resort in Liechtenstein - is located near Vaduz. Prices here are much lower than in neighboring Austria and Switzerland. You can relax here with the whole family: tourists are offered not only ski slopes, but also falconry, sledging, paragliding, various sports competitions. For young skiers, there is a children's Mulby Park where they can ski for the first time or improve their skills.

Among the natural monuments of Liechtenstein, the “Three Sisters” mountain, which is located in the town of Trisen, separates Liechtenstein from Austria, stands out. This mountain peak at the highest point reaches an altitude of more than 2000 m above sea level. At the top of the mountain there is an ancient castle with a chapel, as well as the remains of an ancient fortress, which once served as a residence for the prince and his retinue. There are hiking and climbing routes on the mountain.

Liechtenstein is very fond of various holidays and festivals – there are many of them throughout the year. In addition, in Liechtenstein they like to eat deliciously – gourmets will be able to enjoy all sorts of sausages, sausages, game dishes and cheeses here. Also worth a taste of local wine and the famous alpine chocolate.

Liechtenstein is one of the safest countries in the world. Therefore, tourists visiting this country can feel completely protected. However, it is worth remembering that the residents of Liechtenstein strictly respect the laws and regulations, which is expected from visiting tourists – if any rules are violated, travelers will have to pay a very large fine.
