Top 10 cities for "nocturism": Ideal places for night tourism
A 2025 survey of 33 countries found that 62 percent of people were interested in nightlife vacations.
This growing trend has been called “noctourism” – after dark tourism, which includes activities such as stargazing, night excursions and night safaris.
To determine the ideal destinations for such a holiday, the experts analyzed 50 cities according to four key criteria: safety (10%), transport (10%), impressions (40%) and natural conditions (40%). The assessment included the level of crime, the availability of night transport, the quality of night excursions, the duration of daylight hours.
Based on this analysis, a ranking of the best cities for nocturism was compiled.

RomeTopped the list as the absolute leader in all categories. The Italian capital offers many evening tours, such as the Colosseum and Vatican after sunset, when historic monuments come to life under the lights. Transport here is well developed, and the average ticket price for the tour is about 1.5 euros. The city is full of cultural nightlife entertainment, from street performances to wine tastings under the stars, making it ideal for romantics and history buffs.
AmsterdamIt ranks second due to its high security and impressive nighttime activities. The Dutch city is famous for night museums, boat excursions during festivals and cozy canals lit by lanterns. This is a great choice for those who want to combine culture with a relaxed night out.
tromsIt shares second place with Amsterdam for its safety and unique natural conditions. The Norwegian city offers exciting opportunities to observe the northern lights and night scenery during the polar night. Although transport here is less developed, organized excursions help to navigate, and the ticket will cost about 3.8 euros. This is a place for adventurers looking for natural magic.
rovaniemiIt attracts beautiful winter landscapes and safe rest. The Finnish "homeland of Santa Claus" allows tourists to watch the Northern Lights, ride a sleigh and go on deer walks. Prices for tours are high here, but the experience of icy wonders and calm nights is worth it - especially for families or those who love a winter fairy tale.
TokyoCloses the top five, charming with bright lights and a variety of entertainment. The Japanese capital is ideal for a night holiday due to its high security and ease of movement. Among the offers are walks through the glowing streets of Shibuya, gastronomic tours with street food and evening cruises along the river. The cost of excursions here is more affordable than in Rovaniemi, which makes the city attractive for budget travelers.
Experts advise nocturists to avoid certain destinations. Buenos Aires, São Paulo and Havana are considered the worst options for nightlife because of high safety risks and less suitable conditions for dark hours.
If you are planning such a holiday, consider the season (winter is better for northern cities with long nights) and check the current prices. This trend opens the door to a world of unforgettable adventures under the stars!
