Do I need to carry an internal passport?
Every tourist, whether traveling in Russia or out of the country, faces the process of preparing documents for the trip. There are many questions: whether you need to take a particular document, for example, an internal passport on a foreign trip.
On the one hand, you do not want to put at risk the loss or damage of an important document, especially if it is not actually needed during the trip. On the other hand, a holiday can be ruined if a situation arises that requires the presence of an internal passport, and it was left at home “precautiously”.
To take or not to take? Let's figure it out.
Let's get this straight. An internal passport is the main identity document of a citizen located in Russia. In other words, this is an ordinary passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation, everyone has it.

In addition to the passport, identity documents, according to the letter, are:
Birth certificate – for a child under 14 years of age;
- Seafarer's passport - for citizens of the Russian Federation.
- military card (identity card of a serviceman) - for persons serving in the Armed Forces of Russia;
other documents that, according to the legislation of the Russian Federation, are recognized as identity documents.
For traveling in Russia, an internal passport is a mandatory attribute. If the route of your trip will pass both on the territory of Russia and go beyond its borders, you should also take your passport with you. This will avoid unnecessary waste of time and nerves.
Also, some neighboring countries, such as Belarus, are loyal to Russian tourists. To pass passport control, you will need only a passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation. It should be borne in mind that in this case, all road documentation should be issued on this passport to avoid problems when crossing the border. Be sure to check the rules of entry into the country to which you are going. This simple procedure will help to issue and take with you all the necessary papers, and at the same time not to carry anything superfluous.
When traveling abroad, a document may be needed when crossing the border.
In general, Federal Law 14-FZ "On the procedure for leaving the Russian Federation and entering the Russian Federation" states: "Departure from the Russian Federation and entry into the Russian Federation by citizens of the Russian Federation are carried out on valid identity documents of a citizen of the Russian Federation outside the territory of the Russian Federation." That is, for the process of entering a foreign country - leaving Russia, only a foreign passport is enough, but in actual practice there are often situations when border control requires an internal document for a foreign passport. This can happen if the photo in the passport differs from your real appearance or the control officer has suspicions on your account. However, do not panic, such situations are rare and are rather an exception.
Getting a Russian passport while traveling will help if you lost a foreign document for some reason or, perhaps, it was stolen from you. In this situation, you will have to contact the Russian Embassy, which, in turn, must provide the necessary document for returning to Russia. However, the procedure for its registration includes the identification of the traveler, and the presence of an internal passport will greatly accelerate this procedure.
If you do not want to take the original document on a trip, as a rule, a notarized copy will be enough. It is also not superfluous to store a scan of the original on a personal e-mail, so that at the right time you always have access to it.
