“Take the towel with you...” or “What to take from the room to remember your vacation.”
"Take the towel with you! They don't need it, do they? They have hundreds of them in the warehouse, and the mother-in-law will be pleasant! – sang “The Choir of the Turkish Hotel” by the KVN team “Ordinary People” at the festival in Jurmala. Towels are the most popular souvenir from the hotel room.
At the beginning of the two-thousandth corporation Holiday inn conducted a study and found that over a year more than five hundred thousand towels were stolen by guests. The owners of the company organized an action: for each guest who stole a towel and “repented” on the site, Holiday inn transferred $ 1 to a charitable foundation.
But, gentlemen of tourists, remember that such charitable projects happen infrequently, and taking a towel with a hotel emblem from the room, and often just an unbranded standard terry towel is still theft.

After all, Russian tourists have long overcome the euphoria of the first available foreign trips. So now, even if you do not steal the towel, and buy it in the souvenir shop at the hotel in memory of a good vacation, we recommend to keep the check to show it to friends when they look at you with judgment.
By the way, in hotel shops you can often buy other goods with the symbols of the hotel, which primarily fall into the lists of "lovers of souvenirs" - robes, ashtrays, mugs, pens.
But take your slippers boldly, they are still disposable.
You can also take "branded" shower gels, shampoos, soap. But not in all hotels, especially if the hotel is small star, toiletries are branded. And does it make sense to take a simple jar that can be bought in any store anywhere in the world, even around the corner of your home? Meanwhile, according to studies, up to 2 million liters of shampoo are exported from hotels per year.

Hotel owners are trying to fight tourist theft, which, although small, but still creates financial problems for business. Many hotels refuse branded dishes or write on towels “stolen from such and such a hotel”, but it is difficult to stop the process. Tourists take as souvenirs even Bibles from bedside tables.
Sometimes souvenirs from a hotel cost a lot of money, especially if they represent collectible value. For example, from the hotel where the film “Pretty Woman” with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere was shot, a marble fireplace was stolen. In Hong Kong, a painting by Andy Warhol, valued at $300,000, was stolen from a hotel.
Theft or its attempts can be curious and even ridiculous. In one of the hotels in England, a guest tried to take the head of a boar out of a restaurant. Friends of the souvenir lover came to the hotel and bought a stuffed car to give a failed robber to the wedding.
In another English hotel, a guest unscrewed a sign with a room number to commemorate the holiday. The hotel only caught on after discovering that the following tourists were baffled down the hallway, not knowing where their room was.
At the same time, hotel owners often do not have to joke. They nail all valuable property to the floor and walls, and yet lose carpets, curtains and sheets. After all, many people think that it would be good to have at home a magnificent, soft, pleasant to the touch cotton sheet, the same as the one on which he slept on vacation. Or maybe it is the quality of the sheet, think a tourist who slept for the first time in a long time. Why not take something so useful home?

The answer to this question is simple: hotel owners often send maids to check the room when evicting tourists. And if a hotel property is found missing, the guest will likely have to pay the cost, or the money will be debited from his credit card. Criminal cases on hotel thefts are opened quite rarely, but financial retribution can still overtake the tourist.
A frequent cause of petty theft of guests is the belief that if you have paid for a room, especially in the all inclusive system, you can take everything for memory. In one of the hotels in Turkey, when leaving, tourists were caught taking Baileys liquor out of the bar and thus typing a five-liter canister for a vacation.
Mini-bars are also often subjected to “raids”, but here for unclean people can check maids when leaving. In addition, does it make sense to take unbranded standard bottles of alcohol, which can be bought as a gift to loved ones in any duty-free?
But if you take souvenirs from the hotel, such as brochures, promotional CDs or brochures, the owners are unlikely to be upset. For the tourist it will be a real memory of the pleasant minutes spent in the room, and for businessmen the possibility that, showing the "souvenir" to friends, satisfied guests will interest them, provide advertising and attract new customers.
But don't steal the hotel owner's dog, and there was one.
And remember, dear tourists, that the most important souvenir that you can take with you, leaving the hotel, should be vivid impressions and bright memories of the holiday.
