Is it possible to go abroad with a maiden name in your passport?
Finally, Mendelssohn's march has been played, the guests are no longer shouting "Bitter!", it's time to go on a honeymoon. After marriage, a tourist is a citizen with a new surname, but absolutely without documents. Is it possible to go abroad with a maiden name in a passport?
It is important to remember that after changing the surname (or other personal data), a citizen is given a month to replace all documents, starting with a civil passport. And then begins the documentary whirlwind, because the happy bride did not even think that together with her husband's surname she acquires the need to change the medical policy, rights, TIN and much more. Including a passport. But this month, dear girls, you can safely use for foreign trips, after all, it is honeymoon.
De jure, the passport must be changed immediately. But this is not a matter of five minutes or even a couple of days. The portal of public services, of course, made life easier for tourists. Still, it is always easier to get a ticket on the site, so as not to stand in a live queue. But in any case, the deadline for the execution of the request will be at least 30 days. It can take several months to replace a Russian and then a foreign passport. Therefore, if the girl is going to travel in the near future after the wedding, then you should consider the issue in detail.

The order of the Federal Migration Service of March 26, 2014 No. 211 states: “If it is impossible to continue using a new generation passport before its expiration due to ... changes in personal data (surname, first name, patronymic, gender and others) ... the applicant is issued a new passport upon his application ...”. Even if a tourist finds a way to go abroad (and there are such ways), one must remember that the law will still be violated. It can be compared to a ride on a bus. The chance of being caught is small, but there is a violation of the rules.
The good news is that the deadlines for replacing a passport are not set by law, and accordingly there are no penalties for lateness.
Travel abroad with the maiden name in the passport is possible. The methods are as follows:
First, there are many visa-free countries such as Vietnam, Montenegro, the Dominican Republic or the Maldives. They can have a great honeymoon, because at customs nothing but a foreign passport, the tourist does not present. Since a civil passport is not required, customs officers will not find the fact of marriage. Of course, you will not be congratulated on your new status, but you will be released abroad without any problems.
Secondly, if the selected country requires a visa, but the visa was opened before marriage, the permit was purchased in maiden name, it is also listed in the ticket, then you will get out - at customs, a Russian passport is not required. But if the visa is planned after going to the registry office, then the visa for the “old” passport will not be possible, the consulate will request copies of all pages of the passport of the general civil.
Please note, dear tourists, that after the change of passport all previously opened visas are closed, they will have to be obtained again.
Thirdly, some brides prefer not to take the surname of the spouse, and quietly travel all their visas, and then become a citizen of so-and-so.
In recent years it has become fashionable to hold wedding ceremonies in other countries. Suppose that the bride and groom from different cities, and guests from one side or the other will still have to go somewhere. So why not offer loved ones to share their joy with the newlyweds and at the same time go on vacation? Wedding options abroad are very different: a tropical paradise in Thailand, a medieval castle in the Czech Republic or a carnival in Rio de Janeiro (by the way, Brazil is just a visa-free country for Russians). But the documentation of marriage takes place in the same registry office at home. Therefore, brides planning a wedding abroad, we recommend to think in advance whether to take the name of the future spouse immediately, and if you decide to take, then thoroughly study the entry system of the state where the celebration is planned.

If you take the husband’s surname, but travel only to visa-free countries, you can “reach out” to the end of the passport, and travel under the old surname.
But even in this case, there are “pitfalls”. Tourists who have not changed their passports after marriage for several years should remember the following: if you are traveling with children, regardless of whether you need a visa, you need to change your passport in advance. At the border, you will need to present in addition to the child’s passport, a birth certificate, and possibly general civil passports of parents with data on the child. Inconsistency of names will be found.
In any case, if you have such a joyful event as a wedding, and after it a romantic trip, then we wish you happiness and a pleasant holiday without problems with documents.
