What is a charter flight and how to book tickets?

Currently, the tourism industry plays a special role in the life of every person and is one of the most developing areas. The pace of life increases and the need for rest increases.

How do you get to your destination? Nowadays, no one wants to waste time on the long road to the long-awaited vacation. And here comes the help of air transportation services. With the growing demand for the tourist product, the need for the development of air transportation is also growing.

As practice shows, not always regular flights of vehicles can withstand the influx of passengers, especially in the holiday season, and the high load has led to the need to introduce charter flights.

Charter flight - a flight performed by an aviation company, but organized by the tour operator. They do not have a clear schedule, and this is different from regular flights.

Charter - usually a flight to the resorts without transfers, directly. Such flights, unlike permanent ones, are organized only for holidays and mass destinations. If the demand for a destination is small, then there are enough regular flights, but when the flow of tourists increases, and there are not enough seats on permanent flights, then tour operators organize additional (charter) flights.

Also, the charter is put when there is a demand for a certain direction, but there is no regular flight, it is quite convenient for tourists who want to get to the rest place quickly, economically and without unnecessary effort.

How to get on a charter flight?

On charter flights to get quite simple, but at the same time not easy. Often such flights fly groups of tourists formed by the tour operator.

Travelers buy tickets for them together with a tourist product (tourist package). Separately, charter tickets can be sold, but this happens quite rarely. This moment causes some inconveniences for lovers of the so-called "savages" holiday, since it practically does not give the opportunity to save as much as possible on the flight.

The cost of a charter flight is much lower than on a permanent flight. But for such a ticket, the price can fluctuate greatly and depend on the markup of the seller and the speed of the date of departure. Also, if you do not use a charter ticket for any reason, its cost is not refunded to the owner. As a rule, there is no division of seats into classes on charters - passengers are on equal terms.

Differences between charters and regular flights

1. Schedule. Permanent flights carry out transportation according to a clearly approved, for a long period, schedule. Charters carry out transportation in the so-called "windows", which are between regular flights.

2 Time. The exact departure time of a charter flight can change a few days, hours and even minutes before the upcoming trip. While with regular flights, this can happen as a result of force majeure.

Route 3. Charters are often straight and fly in both directions “there and back”. It happens that regular flights do not always return to the city of departure.

4. Cancellation and rescheduling. Cancellation or postponement of departure time of a permanent flight can occur only in case of force majeure, while the charter departure is carried out only after departure of regular flights. In this regard, a charter flight can be delayed for several hours (at best).

5. Placement. On charter flights there is no division into classes. The same chairs are more compact for greater capacity.

6. Food. On charter flights, unlike regular flights, meals are a little more scarce, the choice is less or in principle absent.

7. Purchase. Tickets for a charter flight are sold by the tour operator as part of the tourist package, while tickets for permanent flights can be sold by the carrier itself and other organizations.

8. Return. Tickets for charter flights are often non-refundable. If a non-refundable ticket is delivered during a regular flight, and some fees are returned, this is not possible on a charter. The same goes for the exchange. If the flight is permanent, then it is not difficult to exchange the ticket (possibly with a surcharge). On a charter flight, you will most likely have to buy a ticket again, but very rarely a tour operator can go to a meeting and exchange a ticket with a surcharge.

In conclusion, a few words about the advantages and disadvantages of charter transportation.

Advantages of chartering

1. Low ticket prices. Charter flights allow tourists to save on service in the plane, which significantly reduces the cost of the ticket and makes the journey more economical.

2. Direct route. With the help of a charter, tourists can easily get to where regular flights do not fly. This eliminates the long wait for flights and the purchase of several tickets.

Route 3. Sometimes such flights are made to places that ignore regular flights, which allows tourists to relax in resorts without crowds and noisy companies of like-minded people.

Shortcomings of charters

1. The ticket is not refundable. If a tourist for some reason decides to abandon the trip, then money is not refunded for tickets.

2. An unstable schedule. Charters usually fly between scheduled flights, resulting in frequent movement and possible delays.

3. Savings on maintenance.
