What's a hostel?

More and more often, this overseas word can be heard among travelers. What is it and where did it come from? Hostel (Hostel) is translated from English as a hostel.

The first hostels appeared in Europe, namely in Germany. Over time, they have become so popular that now in almost every place in the world, be it Russia, Europe or America, you can find a hostel.

What is their popularity? At the moment, this is a good alternative to the usual hotels and rented apartments, because hostels are much cheaper and usually located in central areas, which makes travel more affordable for people of any income.

What's a hostel?

Most often this is a room like a hotel, but sometimes just large apartments are converted into hostels. Shared bathroom, toilet and kitchen - a distinctive feature of such housing.

In fact, you do not buy a separate room, as in a hotel, but one bed in a common room. Rooms can be double (they are usually more expensive) and multi-bed up to 10-15 people nearby.

Most often, rooms are divided into men's and women's, but sometimes there are only common ones where everyone has to get along together.

Beds are usually bunk, but it depends on the hostel. Each guest is provided with clean bedding and a box on the key for storing personal belongings.

In some hostels, breakfast is included in the price, usually just tea with cookies or a sandwich. Also, larger hostels often equip a common room, similar to a living room, where you can watch TV, read or meet other guests.

Another distinguishing feature is the mode of operation. Most hostels close for the night at the same time, for example at 23.00, due to the fact that guests do not wake each other in the middle of the night. After all, someone prefers to go to bed early, and someone wants to walk along the night streets, unfortunately, in the hostel it will not work out, the rules are the same for everyone and you have to take into account the interests of others.

Also, almost all hostels have a ban on drinking alcoholic beverages, it is associated with the fact that the stay of guests was as calm as possible.

Nowadays, almost all hostels have free WiFi, which can not but please.

We have decided what this is, but should we stay in the hostel? We will tell you about the pros and cons to make it easier for you to decide.

Plus hostels:

- Price. Good savings, hostels are many times cheaper than hotels. This is an affordable holiday for all who wish.

- Location. Most often hostels are located in the city center, or in close proximity to the main attractions.

- New acquaintances. You will live side by side with other people. And be sure to meet someone, find new friends or like-minded people. You can meet foreigners and improve your language skills.

- Free WiFi.

- Leisure. Often in common rooms you can play board games for free or watch movies. Many hostels provide their guests with free bikes or sightseeing tours, which is a nice bonus.

Cons of hostels:

- Common bathroom and kitchen. Unfortunately, not everyone is ready for this practice. One single toilet for several rooms will be an inconvenience for some tourists. If you want to cook your own food, you may have to queue for the stove, and not all hostels provide free cookware for cooking and serving the table, which causes a number of inconveniences.

- Unpleasant neighborhood. No one is immune from the fact that your bedmate will not observe the norms of personal hygiene, or will not be the most honest citizen, or maybe just be a very intrusive talker. Living in a hostel, you will not have
Opportunities to be alone with yourself. It's not for everyone.

- Laundry. Most often, hostels do not have their own laundry room, usually one or more washing machines become, and access to them is carried out for a fee, which is worth considering the traveler.

- Children and animals are banned. No matter how strange it may sound, but in some hostels you can not stop with children, let alone your favorite pets. So families with children or pets, either have to look for a hostel that allows such accommodation, or abandon this venture altogether.

Hostels have their drawbacks and pros. Just do not forget that hostels are different, and everything depends on its price.

Do not choose very cheap in pursuit of savings, it can end badly. Hostels of medium cost are quite suitable for a stay for a couple of days. But if you are used to luxury hotels, then this option, of course, will not suit you.
Hostels more expensive offer a more extensive range of services to their guests, and more often are newer and more spacious.

How to choose a hostel?

Go to the site where you can book hotels and hostels, as well as where there are reviews of real guests. Choose the desired city, dates of arrival, number of days and nights. Choose the right location – it depends on your needs, because hostels are both in the city center and outside the city. We get acquainted with additional services: laundry, breakfast, storage chamber, etc. Choose the items you need. We look at the photos and see the description of the hostel.

Be sure to read the reviews, it is advisable to read the latest reviews, no later than a few months, so you can find out more reliable information at the time of your trip. We choose the right option and reserve a seat.

Hostels, of course, have become a good alternative to the usual hotels. They made travel more accessible and interesting. We gave another opportunity to meet new people, to learn places where there was no opportunity to visit before.

If you are ready for adventure, new acquaintances, unusual conditions – this is what you need. Be brave to go on a journey!
