How to return home if your travel documents are lost?

The scheme of actions is explained by Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Press of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Igor Lyakin-Frolov:
If you lose your passport abroad, you should contact the Russian Embassy or Consulate. And write a statement in which to explain in detail what happened to the passport.
When the identity is established, a special certificate will be issued with which you can safely return to Russia.

However, identification can be a long process. Another document will help to speed it up, for example, a license or a regular Russian passport. The testimonies of other guides will help. But if a person traveled alone and lost all documents, the procedure of identification will be longer. The embassy will be in contact with Moscow, and the process of obtaining a certificate for return may take several days until confirmation comes that the tourist is who he claims to be.
If your passport is stolen or lost, you need to contact the local police, then they will not be able to use the attackers.

And one more simple but effective tip: make a photocopy of the first page of the passport and keep it separate from the original. It is better to leave the document in the hotel safe, and walk around with a copy. They steal it, they lose it.
