Travels to the unique Selenga River Delta

Selenga is the largest tributary of Lake Baikal, a legendary river, sung in legends and songs of many tribes and peoples who have ever lived on its banks and valleys. Since ancient times, human communities have been formed in these territories. Mentions of them are constantly found in ancient Chinese chronicles, Muslim writings and other historical sources, as they were often the scene of events of great international significance.

On the territory of the delta, stretching for tens of kilometers, you will find many large and small rivers, picturesque islands, peninsulas, lakes and bays.

In the southern part of the delta there are large mounds. Weeds on Baikal are called shallow, relatively large bays. The hollows are shallow shoals, lagoons with warm water and rich aquatic vegetation, in which boron and partial species of fish live in abundance.

This picturesque area is one of the main ornithological territories of Asia, included in the register of wetlands of international importance. There are many rare birds in the delta. In total, 251 species of birds from 16 orders were recorded on its territory, during the migration period there are up to 5 million birds. This is the most unique in Eastern Siberia area of concentration of near-water birds.

The uniqueness of trips to the Selenga Delta lies in the close relationship of amazing nature and original culture of local residents. You will be welcomed in Russian and Buryat villages and in a cozy warm atmosphere will be treated to dishes of national cuisine. You can feel all the energy of ancient customs and traditions. In your trip, be sure to include a visit to historical, archaeological and cultural attractions located in close proximity to the delta.

Fans of outdoor activities will be able to raft on kayaks along the numerous picturesque ducts of the delta. During the water adventure you can visit the first lighthouse built on Lake Baikal. On the territory of the delta there is an observation tower, which opens an unusual panorama. In the evening, having moored to the shore, you will rest by the fire, frying fish on gingerbread and inhaling the evening bouquet of local herbs.

Delta is attractive for its biodiversity for scientists, its atmosphere for writers and musicians, and its space for romantics and seekers of harmony with nature. The serenity of the delta, its majesty in the pre-sunset light, its ringing smells and the sounds of bird voices will long remain in your memory.
