Twenty-five kilometers from Tyumen, on the picturesque shore of Lake Andreevsky, the Archaeological Museum-Reserve is located. In 1883, the first archaeological excavations were carried out here. Numerous expeditions that later worked in the area found traces of a number of ancient settlements of different eras, well-preserved fragments of fortifications, burial grounds and sanctuaries. The earliest of the finds belong to the Stone Age, and this is a little bit, five thousand years BC.
On the territory of the museum-reserve there are several defensive structures of the Iron Age. In the same places, an ancient Mansi sanctuary of the IX-XIII centuries was discovered, which gave archaeologists many previously unknown objects of worship and decorations. The way of life of the Khanty and Mansi peoples is represented by reconstructions of their traditional residential and economic buildings. Visiting this exhibition, you will be able to get an idea of all the richness and originality of the spiritual culture and life of the northern peoples. You will discover the secret of harmonious coexistence in the harsh climate and wild nature. If you are not close to the charms of nature, then in Tyumen there are many attractions that will attract the most demanding tourist. For example, the Tyumen Regional Museum of Local History.
Tyumen Regional Museum, built in 1879, is one of the oldest museums in Siberia. At its origins was an outstanding scientist, teacher and local historian, member of the Russian Geographical Society Ivan Yakovlevich Slovtsov. The museum collection is based on two private collections of Siberian antiquities. One of them was personally collected by Slovtsov, the other, donated to the museum by the famous Tyumen merchant and philanthropist Nikolai Chukmaldin. Initially, the museum was located in the building of the Alexandrovsky School, whose director at that time was Slovtsov. Since 1922 it has been in the building of the former city council. Today, the museum is one of the most important cultural centers of the region, actively carrying out exhibition, gathering, research and educational activities.
The building of the City Duma, built in the 30s of the XIX century, is one of the most original and bright architectural monuments that form the appearance of the historical center of Tyumen. The building is decorated with a tower clock with battle, made in 1857 by a peasant of the Assumption parish A. Trusov. The second floor is occupied by the permanent exposition “Museum and Nature”, representing paleontological exhibits, flora and fauna of the Tyumen region. Among its most spectacular exhibits, of course, should include the skeleton of a fossil mammoth. Of great interest are the skeletons of bison and woolly rhinoceros found in the vicinity of Tyumen in the late XIX century.
In addition to paleontological exhibits, the museum exhibits a rich zoological collection, including stuffed animals and birds living in the Tyumen region. Among them are such rare species as pink flamingo, persan, red-bearing cossack, etc. Of considerable interest is the collection, which presents about 10 thousand insects, as well as the oldest exhibits of which are attributed to the tertiary period (20-25 million years ago).
Another no less interesting museum to visit is the Masharov House Museum located in a stone mansion, an architectural monument of the late XIX century. The house with outbuildings that formed a small estate in the center of Tyumen belonged to the famous Tyumen industrialist Nikolai Masharov (1865-1922).
The Masharov House Museum opened its doors to visitors in 1994. In this small mansion completely recreated the living conditions of merchants - the most advanced and active part of the city's population in the late XIX - early XX centuries. The owners of the house often arranged evenings, in many ways reminiscent of the traditions of secular receptions, which often sounded improvised musical concerts. The museum recreates in detail the interior of the house, consisting of a hall, an office, a dining room, a bedroom and a nursery, as well as utility rooms located on the lower floor. The interior of his rooms can tell a lot about the aesthetic needs of the merchant families of Tyumen a century ago. The attention of visitors is attracted by the exquisite decor of stoves and fireplace, the thoughtfulness of the layout and decorations of small but cozy rooms. The museum presents a variety of cast iron products produced at the Masharov factory. When you visit this museum, it feels like time comes to life before your eyes. As if you crossed not the threshold of the museum, but time machines and moved back several centuries.
Currently, in addition to the permanent exposition, the museum organizes exhibitions of extant photographs depicting the old Tyumen and its inhabitants. In the living room of the Masharov house, musical and poetic evenings are held, like those that were once held here.
You became bored wandering around the museum halls, you want space, then boldly go to the city, there is also something to admire. In Tyumen, there are many ancient temples – real monuments to Russian craftsmen. They were the ones who were the ones who were the ones who were the ones who were the ones who were the ones who were the ones who were the ones who were.
Znamensky Cathedral is one of the main architectural and spiritual symbols of Tyumen. He is a vivid example of the “Siberian Baroque”. The first wooden Znamensky church was built around 1624. After that, it burned and rebuilt several times – in 1697 and in 1766. After the last fire in 1768 on the site of the burned church was laid stone, unfortunately, the name of the architect, the author of this architectural splendor is unknown. The main stages of its construction were completed in 1786. The iconostasis of the church was painted in 1801 by Tobolsk ditcher Fedor Cherepanov. Today, admiring the silhouette of the Sign Church stretching to the sky, as if born of a single impulse of inspiration of folk architects, it is difficult to assume that its organic architectural ensemble was formed within a century and a half.
The Church of St. Nicholas, or as it is also called, was laid on the southern end of the Zatyumensky Cape at the expense of parishioners in 1774 and consecrated in 1791. The church is built with a rich decorated five-head. During the overhaul in the XIX century, the elegant Baroque decoration of the church disappeared, however, it has not lost its beauty. The trustees of the church in the 1900s were Kolokolnikov merchants, who were also trustees of the entire nearby quarter. After the closure of the church, crosses were dropped from the domes, and in the building there are workshops of agricultural engineering, a DOSAAF school, a shooting range and a student club. Worship in the temple resumed in 1993, when the temple was transferred to the Tobolsk-Tyumen diocese. The church building was restored, and a cast-iron fence was erected around. In August 1998, the restored church was consecrated by Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia. In December 1997, the Theological School was opened at the temple, in 1999 a new building was built for it, which together with the church now forms a single architectural ensemble.
All-Holy Church. In 1833, the construction of the All-Saints Church was started on the territory of the city cemetery, the consecration of which took place in 1838. Earlier on the site of the stone temple stood the wooden church of the same name, built in 1779. At that time, the place where the church stood was the eastern outskirts of the city. The uniqueness of the architecture of the All-Saints Church, maintained in the traditions of classicism, is that it is the only circular temple in Siberia.
The temple of the three saints. The temple, standing on a hill, in the middle of the graves of the Parfenov cemetery has a long history. In 1586, when Tyumen began to build, there was a wooden church in the cemetery, which by the middle of the last century had become dilapidated. In its place in 1862, the brothers Ivan and Fyodor Diakonov erected the present white-stone beauty in honor of the three universal hierarchs Basil the Great, John Chrysostom and Gregory the Theologian. In 1932 the temple was closed. The new history of the temple began in the year of the Millennium of the Baptism of Russia. He began to worship the parishioners of the All-Holy Church to which he was attributed. In 1990, the temple had its abbot - Father Sergius, who July 12, 1990 served in the temple the first service, the day of the first postal Peter and Paul.
