Constitution Day of Azerbaijan

On November 12, 1995, the Constitution was adopted by popular referendum.In 1995, the Constitution of Azerbaijan, an independent sovereign state, was adopted through a general popular referendum. The people of Azerbaijan, continuing the centuries-old traditions of their statehood, declared their intentions to protect the Republic of Azerbaijan, guarantee the democratic system, achieve the establishment of civil society and live in friendship, peace and security with other peoples.

The Constitution of the Republic was adopted on November 12, 1995, and the first parliamentary elections were held in independent Azerbaijan on the same day. Constitution Day was established on 6 February 1996.
