Victory Day
The Second World War was the worst, bloodiest war in human history. Azerbaijan, being part of the Soviet Union, took an active part in this war.
About 700,000 Azerbaijani citizens participated in the war, they fought heroically, half did not return. That's great heroism. No one should forget this heroism.
After the Second World War, after the victory, many European nations found freedom. The true freedom of Azerbaijan was achieved after the restoration of our independence. In a difficult and difficult period, Azerbaijan began to live as an independent state.
The first years of independence were extremely difficult for our country, it faced great danger. Only after the return of the national leader of our people Heydar Aliyev to the leadership of Azerbaijan, the situation began to change, all threats were eliminated, and our country began to develop confidently.
Over the past 10-11 years, Azerbaijan has achieved great success. Our country has strengthened its position in the world, the process of economic reforms has accelerated. Today, Azerbaijan, thanks to its position, is the leading country in the region.
The Second World War was a war of engines, tanks, aircraft. At that time, the vast majority of the Soviet Union’s oil potential was concentrated in Azerbaijan. 75 percent of the oil produced in the Soviet Union came from Azerbaijani oil workers. This oil was refined, turned into fuel, and it made a huge contribution to our common victory. Today, everyone recognizes this, the world recognizes that without Azerbaijani oil, the results of the war could have been different.
