Day of the State Emblem and Flag of the Republic of Belarus

Description:

Emblem and Flag of the Republic of Belarus
The second Sunday of May is the Day of the State Emblem and the State Flag of the Republic of Belarus.

The symbols of the Republic of Belarus as a sovereign state are the State Flag of the Republic of Belarus, the State Emblem of the Republic of Belarus and the National Anthem of the Republic of Belarus.

On May 14, 1995, the first referendum initiated by the head of state took place in Belarus. Among the questions submitted for the approval of citizens was the following: “Do you support the proposal to introduce a new State Flag and the State Emblem of the Republic of Belarus?”

This issue was supported by 75.1% of citizens who took part in the referendum. According to the results of the referendum, on June 7, 1995, the President of Belarus signed two decrees: No. 213 “On Approval of the Standard of the State Emblem of the Republic of Belarus and the Regulations on the State Emblem of the Republic of Belarus” and No. 214 “On Approval of the Regulations on the State Flag of the Republic of Belarus”. Thus, our country acquired the current State Emblem and the State Flag.

The state flag of the Republic of Belarus is a rectangular cloth consisting of two horizontal colored stripes: the upper - red color and the lower - green color. The ratio of the width of the stripes of red and green is 2: 1. The ratio of the width of the State Flag of the Republic of Belarus to its length is 1: 2. Near the shaft, the Belarusian national ornament of red color is placed vertically on a white field, which is 1/9 of the length of the State Flag of the Republic of Belarus.

The state emblem represents the green contour of the Republic of Belarus in the golden rays of the sun over the globe. At the top of the contour is a five-pointed red star. The coat of arms frames a wreath of golden ears, intertwined on the right by clover flowers, on the left - flax. The ears are entwined with red and green ribbon, on which the inscription in gold is made at the bottom: "Republic of Belarus"
