Day of the October Revolution
Description:
Congratulatory card of the USSR timesUntil 1991, November 7 was celebrated in the USSR as the main holiday of the country - the Day of the Great October Socialist Revolution. Even from the school lessons of history, everyone knows well that on the night of November 7 to 8 (in the new style) of 1917, an uprising occurred in Petrograd, committed by the proletariat of Russia, that the cruiser Aurora, standing on the Neva dock, fired, that armed workers, soldiers and sailors seized the post office, telephone, telegraph and the Winter Palace, that they overthrew the Provisional Government and proclaimed the Power of the Soviets, which then existed in our country for more than seventy years.
All these years, November 7 was a “red calendar day” public holiday, marked by a military parade and a demonstration of workers on Red Square. With the collapse of the Soviet Union and the excommunication of the Communist Party from power, it all ended. In Russia, the holiday of November 7, first, was renamed the Day of Accord and Reconciliation, and then completely canceled.
While in Belarus, this day remained a public holiday, which is now called slightly shorter than in the days of the Soviet Union “October Revolution Day”.
