Miner's Day

Description:

Celebrated on the last Sunday of August
Miner’s Day was officially approved in the USSR by the Ministers of Coal Industry A. F. Zasyadko and D. G. Onik on September 10, 1947. The first Miner’s Day celebration took place on August 29, 1948.

Today, on the last Sunday of August, courageous people celebrate their professional holiday, whose hard work is the key to the successful development of the economy. For more than half a century, Russia and Ukraine celebrate this holiday, paying tribute to the selfless work of the glorious army of thousands of miners. Miners give life to industry, bring light and heat to homes.

A miner has a hard job. This serious, dangerous and honorable profession requires from a person maximum endurance and dedication, and often - courage and true dedication.

Progress has not made their incredibly hard, risky work much easier. Not only are coal and ore handed over, but bringing warmth and light to people is a truly noble thing.
