Day of employee of state security bodies of Belarus

Description:

Professional holiday of the Chekists
On December 20, 1917, the Council of People’s Commissars adopted a resolution establishing the All-Russian Extraordinary Commission. From the first days of its existence, the Cheka defended the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state, fought against the intelligence and subversive activities of foreign states, anti-Soviet conspiracies and numerous gangs consisting of the remnants of defeated white armies and criminal elements. After the end of the Civil War, the need for a special body with extraordinary rights and powers disappeared, and the Cheka was abolished. Its successor was the Main Political Directorate under the CEC of Belarus, formed on March 1, 1922, and from June 15, 1934 - the NKVD of the BSSR.

Belarusian Chekists have written bright and unforgettable pages in the heroic chronicle of the Great Patriotic War. Operational groups of the NKVD-NKGB of Belarus identified and neutralized 22 reconnaissance and sabotage schools Abwehr, 36 residency and more than 6.5 thousand agents of German intelligence. By the beginning of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders, the employees of the state security agencies carried out serious work in the enemy’s rear to identify and take on operational register the spies, terrorists and saboteurs who remained on the instructions of Hitler’s special services. Subsequently, these measures helped to cleanse the republic of Hitler’s and bandit underground.

An example of the continuity of military traditions were about 200 officers and ensigns of state security bodies, who, on the orders of the Motherland, performed international duty in Afghanistan, while showing examples of courage and heroism.

In modern conditions, along with the traditional functions of intelligence and counterintelligence, the state security bodies of the republic are at the forefront of the fight against such socially dangerous phenomena as terrorism, organized and economic crime, corruption, drug trafficking.

On December 20, solemn events are traditionally held in Belarus on the occasion of the professional holiday of “Chekists”. In Minsk and regional centers, employees and veterans of the state security service lay flowers at the bust of Felix Dzerzhinsky and Victory monuments. In KGB offices, leaders congratulate their employees and honor veterans. And on national TV channels broadcast movies about scouts.
