Festival of millers of Belarus
Description:
The work of the miller has long been respected and honored. There is no miller in the village. This was especially evident in the autumn, when the harvest was harvested, and fresh caravans were asked for on the tables. Fellow villagers always tried to please representatives of such an ancient profession, because the quality of bread consumed directly depended on them. Therefore, the millers were often wealthy peasants. After all, there was a proverb among the people: “Melnykava Karava, Dzeka Papava and Ekanomava Kabyla were not at all halodic” (“Melnikova cow, pop daughter and old-fashioned mare were never hungry”).
The existence of the festival of millers in autumn is not accidental, because by this time the bread was almost all ground, it was time, albeit short, but rest.
Belarus is a country of rivers and lakes. Will someone turn the millstone himself, if water can successfully do this? Free, that's all! And to our time there are many mills, both water and wind. Water, for example, is in Ivye (although now there is a shop), in Golshany - she grinds flour now.
Various legends and stories have long been associated with mills. Most of the time, they were talking about magic. It was also said (and this is from envy) that they spin the wings of the mill when there is no wind, and carry heavy bags to help the owner. The owner in the form of payment allows them to live under the roof of the mill.
The fact that millers played a rather significant role in society (although they were envied) is indicated by various fairy tales and proverbs composed by the people, the dance “Melniki” and the cycle of games under the general name “Mlyn”. I mean, the mill.
Everyone had fun and fun. Having discussed the successful deeds of the miller and laughed at him, the next morning the peasants equipped their horses and reached for a pot to the mill.
Without bread, you can't!
