Shomukha

Description:

Trinity. The Athos icon.
Semukha is the final spring holiday, coinciding with the church holiday - Holy Trinity Day (the 50th day after Easter).

On Semukha it was customary to decorate houses with branches of birch, maple, oak. On that day, the people of the city were in town. Peasants, dressed festively, went to the church or church, where they illuminated various field and meadow grasses.

The girls on this day "washed", braided branches of birch like a wreath. Our ancestors believed in the magical power of birch and wanted to pass it on to other plants to ensure a good harvest and good health.

In the Western Polesie performed the rite of “driving the bush”. The girls broke maple branches and tied their thick ends with threads - the "bus" was ready. They cooked ceremonial food: eggs and jujuice from freshly caught fish.

A fair was held in many villages.

In the 1990s. Semukha began to revive in the countryside.

In the Minsk region, "Traetsky Fest" is held with the participation of folklore groups.
