Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve
Description:
The city of Minsk is growing and developing every month. And more and more there is a lack of fresh air and space. Children who grow up in the city are becoming more and more distant from nature. People switch to cars, walk less, forget about their health.
But there's a way! And it is very close - in the Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve!
Berezinsky Reserve is one of the oldest protected areas in our country, which has gained worldwide fame as a standard of untouched nature not only in the CIS, but throughout Europe. Since 1979 he has been a member of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves of the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Programme.
The reserve has preserved clean, rare, beautiful wildlife that began to form here thousands of years ago after the melting of ancient glaciers. Anyone can see this beauty!
The peculiarity of the reserve is the neighborhood of 4 types of ecosystems at once: dense forests, rivers, meadows and hot bogs. At the same time, the swamps cover more than half of the territory of the reserve, being part of the priceless natural wealth of Belarus, thanks to which the country is called “the lungs of Europe”. Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve became one of the first protected areas important for the protection of marsh ecosystems in Belarus. It is also the only place on the entire continent where the famous Big Five of large mammals – bison, bear, elk, wolf and lynx – live: only here you can see all of them at the same time!
Through the main attractions of the reserve there are different types of eco-routes: walking, cycling, horseback, skiing. You can observe animals and birds, capture a panoramic view that opens from the observation tower. Fans of water alloys are offered to master the way "from the Varangians to the Greeks" - to swim on a kayak along the Berezinsky water system.
Did you know that the only background monitoring station in Belarus is located in Berezinsky Reserve? Here you can feel like meteorologists and see with your own eyes how the weather forecast is created.
In the reserve there is a nature museum, which presents various species of birds, fish and animals in life size. And you can see the richness of fauna live in the forest zoo, where the inhabitants of the reserve live in spacious green enclosures: bison, deer, lynx, bear, elk and many others.
Children will receive special pleasure from visiting the reserve and communicating with animals, but adults will not remain indifferent!
