Дамбак-ла-Виль

Dambach la Ville

Description:

The small town of Dambach la Ville is considered the capital of Alsatian winemaking. Around it there are vineyards on an area of more than 400 hectares, which is about 56 football fields.

The city of just over 1,000 residents employs around 30 winemakers who produce their own brand name each. Be sure to taste the wonderful Alsatian wines, which, as Louis XV said during his visit to Alsace in 1744, you need to drink with your hat off and kneeling.

On the central square is a well-preserved town hall of the XIV century. Around the city are the fortress walls of the same period.

Walking through the city center, we go up to the chapel of St. Sebastian of the XVI century, where there is an altar in the Baroque style, and outside - a cemetery during the Peasant War of 1525.

From the chapel we climb into the ruins of Bernstein Castle. It'll take about 35 minutes. There will be a beautiful view of the Alsace Valley. You can also have a small picnic there.
