December 15 may be agreed to resume flights to Egypt
The Ministry of Transport of Russia believes that on Friday, December 15, a memorandum on the opening of air communication with the Arab Republic will be signed. This information was given by the head of the department Maxim Sokolov.
Maxim Sokolov, head of the ministry, said: We expect [the representative of Egypt] to come on Friday if he does not stay. We hope that (the memorandum) will be signed.”
Recently, the head of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin noted that Russia may agree to resume direct flights between Moscow and Cairo. This happened at the talks between the leaders of the two countries, Vladimir Putin and Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
Russia and some states stopped air traffic with Egypt after a terrorist attack aboard a Kogalymavia plane in November 2015. In the liner on the flight Sharm el-Sheikh - St. Petersburg, a bomb went off, the victims were 217 people from Russia and seven crew members.
Since then, the issue of restoring flights from Russia to Egypt has been periodically discussed. Since the suspension of air traffic, Egypt has done a great job to improve the level of security at airports.
