27km of change: new four-lane Lucknow-Barabanki road to accelerate travel, tourism and trade

Government of Uttar Pradesh (India) Lucknow-Barabanki Outer Four-Lane Road is a 27-kilometer four-lane highway that promises to make traffic between Lucknow and Drabanka much easier.

The project is aimed at reducing travel time and creating a safer and more convenient route for tourists and business passengers.

What is changing for tourists and residents
Travel between Lucknow Cultural Centre and Drumabanka will be faster and more predictable: the new road will unload existing highways and reduce congestion during peak hours.
Tourists will have more convenient access to places like Kursi, Deva and Chinhat, now often overlooked gems of the region. Major attractions of Lucknow (Rumi Darwaza, Chota Imambara, Bada Imambara) and temples with natural reserves of Drumabanka will be within walking distance. With a local guide, a trip to these places will become even more interesting: the guide will show hidden corners and tell local stories that you will not find in guidebooks.
Logistics for travel to other cities mentioned in the context of the development of the region’s routes – including Mysuru, Bareilly and Shahjahanpur – will be improved.

Advantages for the Economy and Agriculture
The road will connect key industrial areas and transport hubs, which will facilitate the delivery of goods and give respite to local residents and farmers. Farmers from Barabanki and Sitapur will have faster access to major markets and cities, boosting marketing efficiency and supporting the agricultural economy.
Increased trade, mobility and access to services are expected: health, education and commerce in Lucknow will be closer to the surrounding areas.

Environment, employment and social impact
Reducing congestion and reducing vehicle idleness will lead to reduced emissions and overall environmental improvements.
The project will create jobs during construction and subsequent operation, which will have a positive impact on the regional labor market.
Improved infrastructure facilitates greater integration of urban and rural communities, making regions more resilient and accessible.

Who especially needs a new road?
Daily commuters and business passengers – by reducing travel time and more predictable routes.
Tourists – to easily get to the historical and natural sites of the region; advice: take a local guide to see what usually remains behind the scenes.
Local farmers and entrepreneurs through improved access to markets and industrial centres.

The 27km long Lucknow–Barabanki Outer Four‐Lane Road will be an important step towards faster, safer and greener mobility in Uttar Pradesh, with tangible benefits for tourism, trade and the daily lives of local residents.
