80% of Cambodian drivers work under drugs

Traffic police raided Battambang province in Cambodia. The results of the raid showed that 8 out of 10 drivers at night work in a state of drug intoxication.

A wave of inspections swept after a large number of fatal road accidents were recorded. The number of deaths in August was 7 times higher than the average. Inspections identified 80% of drivers who took the pill “yama”, which contained methamphetamine. The substance allowed them to be awake for a long time. Most drivers drove trucks and buses.

However, the police limited themselves to a warning to all caught criminals. The head of the public order department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Cambodia, Run Rothvisna, said that he had not been informed that drivers with a positive reaction to drugs were released. "It's illegal," he said.
