Argentine Book Tower
Buenos Aires was officially declared World Book Capital by UNESCO in 2011. To celebrate this event, Argentine artist and sculptor Marta Minuhin created an incredible structure – the Tower of Babel, which can be seen in Piazza San Martin.
The tower is 25 meters high, and thirty thousand books, once published in 54 countries in different languages, were used as a building material for the construction of the monument. Unfortunately, the tower is a temporary display and will be dismantled over time, and the books used in the construction will be included in the collection of the new multilingual library.
Everyone can climb the unusual tower until May 27. It is open to the public from 10.00 to 22.00. Visitors are allowed free of charge, in groups of 25 people every 15 minutes.
