Association of tour operators of Russia called the main trend of summer 2019

Hard savings – this trend of the current summer season was called at a press conference by the director of ATOR Maya Lomidze.

The demand for 3* hotels, preferably with all inclusive, increased interest in European tour packages from tour operators - independent online booking has risen in price.

In the past, our citizens took first place in the UNWTO generosity ratings, but now they are... The tourist tries to take all inclusive, and no longer spend extra money.”

After the crisis of 2014, when there were bankruptcies of tour operators on the market, tourists saved on food, and chose a hotel “at breakfast”, now another trend: “tourists try to ensure that meals are included as much as possible in the total cost of the tour package, so as to spend less on the spot.”

Differences between “average” budget vacation and expensive differ in the criterion of additional spending on additional services.

Tourists of the "budget level" save on excursions, paid activities, shopping, etc.

Domestic tourism is growing against the background of general trends: Crimea grew by 15-20%, mainly due to economical proposals.

Prices for continental tours may also fall. Altai, North Caucasus, Vologda region, Far East. Federal tour operators go to these areas. There is a chance that the expansion will affect the demand environment and lead to lower prices.”

Another positive consequence of the trend is cautious demand planning. “Demand and supply are well balanced. 60-70% of tours have already been implemented for the summer season. This suggests that this year is likely to be free of dumping and other risky schemes that undermine the financial sustainability of tour operators.”
