Booking explained its work on the Crimean Peninsula

On July 16, federal media published news that Booking hotel booking service is no longer operating in Crimea.

When searching for accommodation in the online system, a message appears: “Unfortunately, at the moment on our website it is impossible to book accommodation in Crimea for the purpose of recreation.”

According to hoteliers of Crimea, this restriction was introduced a year ago, and the media reviews could provoke the mailing, which took place at the end of last week. It officially explains the actions of the company in relation to accommodation facilities on the peninsula.

As Booking.com B.V. is based in the Netherlands, we must comply with EU trade sanctions on Crimea. According to these sanctions, Booking.com is not allowed to offer any services directly related to tourism activities in Crimea. To avoid any misunderstandings regarding the type of services we offer to travelers in Crimea, unfortunately, we must deactivate guest reviews for all accommodation facilities in Crimea for further notice. This means that from next week we will no longer collect feedback from your guests. All existing guest ratings and comments will be removed from your site page on Booking.com.

Tourists can book a hotel using Booking when indicating that they are going to the resort to work by ticking the desired search box.

Therefore, one change in the service is the lack of reviews of tourists. Travellers, according to hoteliers, they have not been noticeable since this spring. “In the past, we had at least feedback from guests, and we were able to respond quickly to comments, despite the fact that tourists themselves did not see them. Now they just removed everything, — said incognito the representative of the hotel of the Peninsula.

He is sure that the lack of the ability to book accommodation on the peninsula without "tricks" affects only small properties, because large ones can get loaded with the help of tour operators.
