British woman sued the tour operator €24 thousand due to fear of tourist trips

Briton Lindsey Woolley charged tour operator TUI about €24,000 after a trip to Turkey, which the woman said she developed a fear of traveling abroad.

The fact that the court sided with her has caused a scandal in the British tourism market.

The proceedings continued for several years. Woolley was staying at a hotel on the Aegean in 2015, and she said three days after arriving she developed symptoms of poisoning and spent several days in her room. Later, the same symptoms appeared in those who rested with her loved ones.

Upon her return to Britain, Woolley went to court.

The defendant, the hotel’s director Ismail Ohan, said that at the time of Woolley’s stay at the hotel, 800 people were not sick, and the woman did not inform the hotel staff about the illness and did not seek qualified help.

The lawyer reported significant violations concerning food hygiene: for example, in the refrigerator in the kitchen, fresh meat was stored along with expired products. However, the top manager of the hotel assured about the elimination of this flaw even before Woolley arrived at the hotel.

The court sided with the plaintiff and ordered the travel agency to pay the tourist compensation of €6 thousand (about 431 thousand rubles), as well as expenses for legal services of €17.8 thousand (1.3 million rubles).

After the announcement of the court decision, Woolley said that she got rid of the phobia and intends to go abroad.
