Will Egypt's charters open soon?

“Bells” about the possible return of tourist transportation to Egypt is becoming a lot. On July 23, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the start of charters to Egyptian resorts.

On July 23, the Russian State Duma ratified an agreement between the Russian Federation and Egypt on comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation. Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Mikhail Bogdanov addressed the deputies.

The Russian diplomat said that “we are approaching the completion of work on two main airports that served tourists in the more resort areas of Egypt – Sinai, Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada on the Red Sea coast.”

We hope that final arrangements will be reached as soon as possible to resume flights, at least charter flights, to these resort areas.

However, experts who are familiar with the situation believe that the Russian Foreign Ministry is not an industry structure that decides on the resumption of flights.

“That is the right diplomatic position. But the technical decision is made by the Ministry of Transport, whose specialists inspect Egyptian airports. The final decision – whether or not to return full-format flights to Egypt – is made by the president.

But every positive “call” about the soon restoration of tourist transportation to Egypt is welcomed, as it is evidence of the “immediate final”.

According to non-state sources in Egypt, following the results of the April inspection of Egyptian resort airports, Russia still has questions about security measures in them, but the number of “negative comments” decreased.

Moscow still requires the use of modern biometric systems (fingerprints and faces) at the airports of Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada. Egypt admits it is unable to implement the demands "due to material problems."
