Diplomats warn of rising anti-Russian sentiment in the UK

Diplomats from the Russian Embassy in Britain In a special statement, we notify our compatriots to carefully weigh the need for travel to the UK.

Against the background of anti-Russian policy and the growing threatening rhetoric of the British side, selective actions of the British authorities against Russian individuals and legal entities.

Specialists of the diplomatic service report that anti-Russian sentiments and even persecution are not excluded in relation to Russian residents in the UK.

Diplomats reported about the possible intrusive attention of local law enforcement agencies and special services to the owners of Russian passports at the entrance and exit of the country. Unforeseen stops and detentions of citizens may occur under far-fetched pretexts for interrogation and search. It is possible to seize and inspect personal electronic devices (computers, mobile phones, tablets, electronic media), including on the basis of British anti-terrorist legislation.

Russian residents in the UK are being asked by the embassy to come to entry-exit points in the UK, given possible checks and flight delays. There are calls to monitor personal belongings and luggage to avoid provocations with the planting of foreign objects and to carefully study customs rules that apply to crossing the border. Given the Russophobia artificially imposed by the authorities in British society, it is necessary to avoid conflicts with the local population. In order to avoid ambiguity and false accusations, we consider it appropriate, where permissible, to record any controversial situations, unreasonable surveys and conversations on the video and audio recording devices available to you.”

Diplomats are also asked to consider the appropriateness of children's tours to summer language camps.

If an emergency occurs, you need to call the hotline of the Russian Embassy in London + 44 (0) 7768 566 868 and Edinburgh +44 7805 932454 around the clock.
