To obtain a US visa, you need to open social media accounts
State Department USA tighten the rules for obtaining visa documents. Anyone wishing to apply for a U.S. tourist, work, student visa will display information about their social media profiles.
Representatives of the Ministry justified the requirement to “identify dangerous persons” in order to deny them access to the country. The new rule is one of the measures to strengthen the screening of visa applicants, which was demanded in 2017 by US President Donald Trump.
The department explained that when applying for a visa, the applicant may indicate that he does not use social networks, but if it turns out that this is not true, the person will face “serious consequences.”
Human rights activists say the requirement is ineffective and forces people to censor themselves online. Tighter U.S. visa requirements include the need to provide phone numbers that a citizen has used for the past 5 years.
