Egypt without Russian tourists earned a record $12,570 billion
Minister of Tourism Egypt Rania Al-Mashat said Egypt's tourism sector had overcome the challenges accumulated in recent years.
This is evidenced by an unprecedented 28.2% increase in tourism revenues in the last fiscal year of 2018/19, when tourism in Egypt earned $12,570 billion. In 2018, the amount was $9,804 billion.
Rania Al-Mashat was speaking in Riyadh at the Saudi Arabian Sovereign Funds’ annual Future Investment Initiative conference.
The Minister stressed that the British government’s decision to resume flights to Sharm el-Sheikh confirms the safety of tourists in Egypt, especially after measures taken by Egypt to strengthen security at all levels (at airports and tourist areas).
Rania Al-Mashat is confident that the decision of the British government to resume flights to Sharm el-Sheikh will contribute to the rapid restoration of tourism in this resort and the entire Sinai Peninsula.
In 2015, after the explosion of a Russian plane over the Sinai, the authorities of many countries imposed a ban on air communication with Egypt.
