Egypt reveals cause of mysterious deaths of two tourists

The government of the Arab Republic says that the cause of death of a couple from the UK in the hotel Hurghada was an intestinal infection.

On August 21, 2018, the couple, who were vacationing on tour operator Thomas Cook, died at the Steigenberger Aqua Magic hotel. Local police did not allow specialists from the UK to enter the hotel room for necessary checks, but foreign experts were able to take samples of food, water and air at the hotel. Tests showed the hotel's restaurants had a lot of staphylococcus and E. coli bacteria.

Egyptian Attorney General Nabil Sadek said the couple died of E. coli, but he did not specify whether the hotel was to blame.

The Times reports that the British may have died because of the poisonous fumes used against pests in agriculture. On the evening of August 20, hotel staff were able to process the hotel room next to the dead, and poisonous couples entered the suite of British tourists through the ceiling space.
