Estonia moves to the euro
From the very first day of 2011, the euro will be introduced in Estonia. The first two weeks of January, the euro and the krone will be used in parallel. Preparations for such a drastic change began yesterday: from December 1 to the end of June, the country’s banks will be able to exchange kroner for euros for free at the official rate. By the end of 2011, the same conditions will apply to the exchange of euros in some post offices. But in Eesti Pank Bank there is the possibility of free and indefinite exchange of money. Preparations for the change of currency began in advance, so that Estonians could prepare themselves mentally and physically for the change. It is interesting that at the initiative of the European Union, citizens are given Eurocalculators, which will help in recalculation. So far, 560,000 families have received them. Preparations for the transfer of enterprises began even earlier. From July 1, all prices must be doubled in euros.
