Germany allowed its citizens to vacation in Turkey: how will the return of the German market affect the interests of Russians?

Germany partially cancels travel warning Turkey: German tourists can relax at the resorts of Izmir, Aydin, Mugly, Antalya.

After lengthy negotiations (they lasted 6 weeks), the German government partially canceled warnings on non-essential trips to Turkey.

Restrictions on Turkey were lifted due to the low rate of coronavirus infection in these provinces: over the past 7 days there were 5 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

The opening of Turkey to Germany was called a victory in both countries. In Germany, because Turkey is in the top 3 popular destinations in the summer. After the coronavirus outbreaks in Spain and the ban on visiting non-European countries until August 31 (Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Cuba, etc.), the choice of countries for flight programs for German tour operators is very small.

For Turkey, the return of Germany is of strategic importance. The German market is the second largest after the Russian market (in 2019, 5 million Germans visited Turkey).

German tourists traditionally go to the resorts of Antalya, Alanya, the Aegean coast, rent apartments in the provinces of Izmir and Aydin (Didim).

Germany’s decision should set an example for other European countries that are not yet releasing their citizens to Turkey.

German tourists after returning from Turkish resorts within 48 hours will have to pass a PCR test for coronavirus.

The German government will continue to monitor the statistics of new COVID-19 cases in Turkey on a weekly basis, and if it worsens, a travel warning may be issued again for the four mentioned resort provinces. For example, Germans are not recommended to travel to the Balears, Canaries, Catalonia.

The Russian market will benefit from the return of Germany: more hotels will be opened, and the offer of domestic tour operators will expand.

Two more pluses - the season will last until November, with the German contingent of holidaymakers, the Turkish side will be even more closely observing the rules of safe tourism.

The head of the Union of Tourist Hoteliers and Operators of the Mediterranean (AKTOB), Erkan Jagji, said that “Turkey has no right to make a mistake.” According to the expert, if Germany again bans travel to Turkey due to the increase in the number of cases of coronavirus, it will close the entire European market.
