The main event of Russian tourism in 2018 - holding the World Cup

The main events in the tourism sector will be associated with the upcoming sports festival – the World Cup, which will be held from June 14 to July 15 in different cities of our country.

Global sports events, the Olympics or the World Cup, attract tourists from all over the world and form an infrastructure that can develop domestic and inbound tourism.
For example, the facilities built for the Sochi Olympics will be actively used, and the Krasnodar Territory has become the leader of domestic tourism in the Russian Federation.

Last year, the Federal Agency for Tourism presented a plan for the development of Russia as a tourist destination "Alliance of Hospitable Cities". In this format, a series of road shows is held in countries that are promising in terms of attracting fans to the championship. In 2017, 9 such events took place in eight European and Latin American countries.
A series of guides to the cities that will host the 2018 World Cup was published. The series of books was presented at the final draw of the championship on December 1.

In the regions whose cities will host fans, hospitality events are approved. Fans will be met by renovated airports and railway stations, modern roads and transport interchanges. The network of air routes has been expanded to provide convenient transport links between the host cities and foreign countries.

The head of Rostourism Oleg Safonov says that the agency has developed a FAN ID project – a fan passport that allows the owner of a person to come to our country without a visa.
There will be special trains between the cities where FAN ID card holders will be free of charge.

Oleg Safonov noted that Rostourism has been implementing the Russian Hospitality program since 2016, which is aimed at adapting the service in various facilities.
In the cities of the FIFA 2018 matches, special tourist "fan routes" have been created - excursion and tasting trips, leisure events. In the cafe of the cities where the matches will be held, a “football menu” will be introduced, and dishes of national cuisine will give an opportunity to feel the ethno-cultural differences of the regions of the matches.

Events aimed at comfortable accommodation of guests of the World Cup in Russia will become an excellent legacy in serving foreign guests and further, expanding the geography of their stay beyond Moscow and St. Petersburg.
