Krasnoyarsk Krai Governor A. Uss: “We are on the verge of a tourist boom, I am convinced of this”
According to the Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Alexander Uss, the remoteness of the Arctic territories is not a disadvantage, but a competitive advantage for tourism.
Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Alexander Uss: We are on the verge of a tourist boom, I am convinced of this. We are not talking about large, but very high-quality projects, such as flights to the North Pole, Khatanga – Mammoth Valley. Now we are beginning the reconstruction of the airport structure in Khatanga, the repair is small, but quite sufficient to receive guests, the press service of the regional government quotes the words of the governor at an expanded meeting on the development of physical culture, sports and tourism in the Arctic regions of Russia "The Russian Arctic - the territory of sports and tourism".
Today, more than 30 operators from all over the country are engaged in tours to the Norilsk industrial district, to the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. However, the number of tourists is relatively small. Last year was a bad one, there was a pandemic. And in 2019, about 35 thousand tourists came here, but I think this number is much higher.
The governor recalled the river cruises that are held along the Yenisei.
Last year, these cruises resumed on the comfortable reconstructed ship Maxim Gorky. Let me remind you that the Krasnoyarsk Territory last summer at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard laid down two of the largest and most comfortable ships in Russia - "Victor Astafiev" and "Andrey Dubensky". Already in 2023, they will begin to walk on the Yenisei. This means a completely different tourist flow. Well, projects such as Zatundra on Putorana Plateau are revolutionary changes in the tourism industry.
Recently, the attitude towards the Arctic and its territories has changed. This is due to high environmental requirements, the need to strengthen national security and increasing investment activity.
The image of Norilsk will soon change. We are talking about changing production structures, and, first of all, with the implementation of a comprehensive plan for the socio-economic development of Norilsk, which involves the development of more than 200 billion rubles until 2035.
" We can expect a different quality of life for northerners here in the Arctic, with such components as a healthy lifestyle, physical education, sports and tourism development.
