Hollywood is in no danger
More recently, residents of the United States were worried about the news that the owners of the land on which the symbol of the City of Angels is located – the inscription “Hollywood” are going to remove it. Undoubtedly, fashionable mansions, which were planned to build Mount Lee, would have been a great success, but thanks to the donations of film studios, actors, patrons managed to save the legendary inscription from destruction. It took $12 and a half million to do that. A significant contribution was made by the owner of Playboy magazine Hugh Heffner.
At a press conference hosted by Trust for Public Land chairman Will Rogers and Arnold Schwarzenegger, the governor of California called the word of 9 Latin letters (formerly 13 – Hollywoodland) the most recognizable symbol of the American dream in the world.
Hollywoodland was founded in 1923 to advertise land
In 1949, the inscription lost its last 4 letters. Despite the fact that in 1970 the symbol of Los Angeles was restored, in 1978, the state authorities spent $ 28,000 on the manufacture of new letters, the height of thirteen meters, as we see them to this day.
