Economist Intelligence Unit: Which city is the best to live in?

A study by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) reports that Vienna has become the best city in the world to live in, returning to the top spot after a two-year hiatus.

The EIU ranking of the most liveable cities in the world is compiled taking into account more than 30 factors, which are divided into five categories: stability, health, culture and ecology, education and infrastructure. Thus, the average Vienna index is 99.1 points out of 100, and the estimate of Damascus is 30.7 points.

The leader of last year’s ranking is Auckland (New Zealand).

Copenhagen took the second place in the list in 2022, Zurich and Calgary shared the third place, Vancouver received the 5th line. The top 10 included Geneva, Frankfurt, Toronto, Amsterdam, Osaka, Melbourne.

Moscow dropped in the ranking by 15 places, St. Petersburg by 13 lines.

"Both cities recorded a drop in valuations due to increased instability, censorship, the imposition of Western sanctions and the curtailment of Western companies' operations in the country," the EIU said in a statement.

The ranking includes 33 new cities, 11 of them are Chinese.

The worst city in the world is Syrian Damascus (172). Among other outsiders were the capitals of the poorest countries of Africa and Asia, including Lagos, Tripoli, Algeria, Karachi, Port Moresby.
