From London to the Northern Lights: airBaltic will open 5 direct flights to Kuusamo in winter 2026/27
Imagine you get off the plane — the frosty air, the fluffy snow and the very whisper of the coniferous forest behind which the northern lights hide.
From December 2026 to March 2027, it will be much easier to get to this frame: airBaltic launches five new direct routes in the future. kusamonorthward Finland Visitors from key European cities.
The new routes will connect Kuusamo with:
- London, UK,
- Manchester (UK),
- Berlin (Germany),
- Hamburg (Germany),
- Riga (Latvia).
The key point is that one airBaltic aircraft will be based at Kuusamo Airport for peak winter. This will give the carrier more flexibility and increase the frequency of flights, including additional weekend flights, which is very convenient for short winter ski trips or hunting for the Northern Lights.
For Kuusamo, this is not just a new runway, but a step towards making the region an even more affordable European winter hub. Resorts, cross-country ski trails, forest trails and icy landscapes will become closer to tourists from the UK, Germany and the Baltic states, and the growing flow of visitors will revitalize the local economy and services.
And a little advice from a travel editor: coming is one thing, but discovering Kuusamo for real is quite another. A local guide knows where to catch the most picturesque views, which paths are safe when changing the weather, where it is warmest to steam after a day on the slope and how to politely get acquainted with the rib of local cuisine and traditions. With a guide, you will noticeably experience the region more deeply - from tales of northern nature to secret spots for glowing.
If you are planning a trip in the winter of 2026/27, keep an eye on your schedule and book in advance: convenient direct flights and limited weekend slots promise to be popular. And remember: Kuusamo is beautiful in itself, but with a guide it turns into a real winter fairy tale.
