Israeli and Russian hotels are the most expensive in the world
The portal hotel.com published a comparative analysis of hotel prices in different countries of the world.
Israel is one of the most expensive countries of tourists, and occupies an honorable ranking, the third place after Switzerland and Russia.
On average, a night in a Swiss hotel costs $ 224, in a Russian – 220, in an Israeli – 208.
For comparison, the US is in 15th place, France is 19th, Japan is 30th and Germany is 32nd.
Since the beginning of the year, room prices hotel The global average grew by 3% and in Jerusalem by 30%. Jerusalem hotels occupy 10th place in the ranking of the most expensive hotels in the world.
On average, a night in a Jerusalem hotel costs $196, and a five-star hotel costs $328.
There are two reasons why Israeli hotels are so expensive. The first is a highly monopolized market whose segments are actually divided among several cartels. Examples include Eilat, two-thirds of which are controlled by the Isrotel and Fatal networks, and the Dead Sea area, where 50% of the rooms are controlled by the Fatal network.
The second reason is the shortage of rooms, with a sharp increase in the number of tourists visiting Israel. Only 1,700 new rooms were built in 10 years, with the number of tourists increasing from 1.2 million a year to 3.45 million.
Additional, though not decisive, factors leading to the high cost of holidays in Israel is the need to protect hotels (it costs 180 million shekels a year). The cost of maintaining kosherness (fulfilling the relevant requirements of the rabbinate and obtaining a certificate) is estimated at NIS 74 million.
