Cairo to sign security protocol at Egyptian airports

The Republic of Egypt is fully prepared to sign an agreed security protocol at the country’s airports to open air links with Russia. This information was provided by the Ambassador of Egypt to Russia Mohammed El-Badri.

In early October, Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich said that in order to restore air traffic with Egypt, Moscow expects a response from Cairo on the draft agreement on security at the country's airports. “In order to continue flights, it is necessary to conclude agreements that will regulate all security issues at Egyptian airports while Egyptian colleagues study the draft agreement,” he said.

“I read Dvorkovich's statement. I’m not sure whether he said it or not, but I would like to guarantee that we fully support the already agreed protocol on this issue, a position we have held for the past five months.
This issue has been closed since last winter, and Cairo told Moscow it fully agreed with the draft protocol. I was one of those who notified our Russian partners about this. The signing of the protocol by the two relevant ministries is a formality and we are ready for it, as it is an agreed text. We can sign it any minute, but we are waiting for the decision of the Russian government to resume flights between the capitals.
