Chinese tourists return to Russia after pandemic

The first organized group of tourists from China since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic arrived in Russia on February 23.

A group of 34 Chinese tourists who arrived on a flight from Shenzhen landed at Sheremetyevo Airport. They were met with traditional Russian dances and caravai.

One of the travelers shared her impressions: I wanted to come for a long time, and after the trips resumed, I immediately signed up for this group. I love your culture, ballet, and painting. I want to visit Red Square, the Kremlin, the Bolshoi Theatre.

Since February 6, China has allowed outbound tourism to Russia and 19 other countries. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China reported that Chinese travel agencies and online travel providers are beginning to organize outbound group tours and provide “air tickets + hotel” services for Chinese citizens in a test mode.

On February 20, Russia and China renewed an agreement on visa-free group tourist trips, which were stopped due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier, Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov said that Russia welcomes the decision of the Chinese authorities to resume tourist trips for Chinese citizens and expects the resumption of Russian trips to China.
