Compensation for flight delays will increase fourfold
The state Duma supported the bill on a fourfold increase in fines for airlines for delaying flights within the country.
The bill provides for the addition of amendments to the Air Code of Russia. Fines for carriers for flight delays will increase four times and will be equal to 100 rubles for each hour of delay.
Now passengers of aircraft are reimbursed the amount of 25% of the “penalty” minimum wage (25 rubles) for an hour of delay, but not more than 50% of the ticket price. The reasons for the tariff increase are the increase in the price level in Russia.
The State Duma Committee on Transport and Construction recommended that the lower house of parliament adopt this bill in the first reading. Deputies are waiting for transparency of information about the reasons for flight delays. The passenger must have full information about the reasons for the delays.
In May 2018, amendments to the Air Code came into force in Russia, according to which compensation for delays in international flights increased. Affected passengers from this moment can receive from the airline up to 360,000 rubles. The maximum amount of payments for lost luggage has also increased, previously it was 600 rubles for each kilogram of missing, and since May, air passengers can claim up to 90,000 rubles for the loss of a suitcase.
