U.S. Consulates in Russian Regions Resume Issuing Visas
American consulates in Yekaterinburg, St. Petersburg and Vladivostok will begin issuing American visas to Russian citizens from December 11. This was stated by John Huntsman, the US Ambassador to the Russian Federation in an interview with Kommersant.
Earlier, John Huntsman at a media briefing in Yekaterinburg said that the issuance of American visas to Russians in the coming days will accelerate. He said that “in a short time” there is a chance to resume interviews of applicants for the purchase of documents in the consulates of the regions.
Since August 23, the issuance of non-immigrant visas throughout Russia has been suspended, and the terms for issuing immigrant visas have changed. The U.S. move could be seen as a response to Russia reducing the number of U.S. diplomatic missions by 755 to 455, which is the same as the number of Russian diplomatic missions in America.
Since the first of September, the American Embassy in Moscow has been conducting interviews for the issuance of non-immigrant visas to the United States. Those from other regions had to go to the capital for documents, this made it difficult to obtain them.
