Coronavirus in Turkey: summer season in question?

Turkey’s tourism sector is sending alarming signals. If there was hope at the beginning of the epidemic, now the situation is unfolding rapidly, hopes are melting and the summer season is in question, its beginning is being pushed back.

Turkey's Interior Ministry on Tuesday ordered all grocery stores in the country to operate only from 9am to 9pm.

If there is a further increase in the number of cases in Turkey, tourism will not be possible in such conditions. And Russian tourists, judging by the results of the meeting of the Chief Physician of the Infectious Disease Hospital in Komunarka with the President of the Russian Federation and the voicing of scenarios for the development of the situation, are unlikely to be released abroad in a pandemic.

It is also not worth hoping that tourists from Europe will actively go to Turkey, they will sit in their countries in the summer, and hotels will have to be preserved.

Now almost all hotels in the country have closed, laying off staff with minimal severance pay. Due to layoffs in a number of hotels, there are sharp conflicts between staff and employers. Several hotels have already taken over such rebellious workers in Turkey’s tourism sector and are calling on employees of other hotels to join the action on social media.

Turkish tour operators began to go bankrupt, all reservations were withdrawn and activity was impossible due to the lack of tourists. According to representatives of Turkish tourism in Antalya alone, 100,000 employees of travel agencies and hotels may be left without work.
