Finland’s Largest Nature Centre to be Created in Espoo

In early 2013, the Haltia cultural and educational center will open in Finland, which will combine information on all 37 national parks of the country and the most important natural attractions.

The environmental focus of the new center is already taken into account at the project stage. Haltia will be the first public building in Finland to be built almost entirely of wooden elements. In addition, with the help of the latest technologies, the complex will produce most of the electricity needed for its operation.

About a third of the building with an area of 3.5 thousand square meters will be occupied by exhibition space. There will also be conference rooms, cafes and restaurants. Visitors to the center will be able to get answers to any questions related to rest and spending free time in nature - for example, tourist routes or fishing and hunting licenses.

Haltia is expected to receive up to 200,000 visitors annually. The project is an integral part of the program “Helsinki – World Design Capital 2012”. The new center will be located on the territory of the National Park "Nuksion" (Finnish Nuuksion kansallispuisto, Swedish. Noux nationalpark) in the city of Espoo.
