London named the most popular tourist city in the world

For the first time, tourists named London the most popular city in the world.

The ranking of the most popular cities among tourists is compiled on the TripAdvisor website and for the first time the British capital became the leader of the rating. London became the first due to a large number of international events that attract a huge number of tourists to the city: last year’s royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, the celebrations scheduled for this year on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s reign, the Summer Olympic Games.

London overtook in the ranking of the 25 most attractive cities and New York and Paris, and last year’s winner – Cape Town.

The chart was compiled on the basis of tens of thousands of reviews of tourists who assessed 440 destinations around the world. "The capital has been a buzzword of late thanks to the royal wedding, the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and, of course, the Olympics, and we see how much fun tourists are getting from the city," TripAdvisor director Emma Shaw said in a statement.
In addition to big international events, tourists say that they are attracted to London theater productions, city markets, free museums and parks.
