Moscow remains one of the safest cities for foreign tourists
The Russian capital among major tourist cities retains one of the lowest crime rates against foreign tourists in the world, said Sergey Shpilko, president of the Russian Union of Travel Industry (PCT).
“One year does not happen, but according to the Moscow police department, the number of registered crimes against foreign tourists does not exceed two or three dozen per year. For a metropolis like Moscow, this is a ridiculous indicator of crime. At the same time, if there was at least one serious crime against a foreign tourist, the media would trumpet several days, he said, speaking at the Gaidar forum.
The crime rate against foreign tourists in Moscow is incomparably lower than in Tokyo, New York and other major tourist cities of the world.
Despite one of the lowest crime rates, Moscow was one of the first to decide on the creation of a tourist police, which is a rather psychological measure, which turned out to be very popular and useful. Now our colleagues in China are reproducing this experience, the head of the PCT added.
