Can a person survive the longest flight in the world?

Qantas Airways (Australia) has started testing flights on the route New York – Sydney.

The carrier will evaluate the ability of the human body to carry the longest flight in the world. The Project Sunrise flight test will take place on Boeing 787-9 aircraft with a team of 40 people (pilots, staff and passengers).

Before takeoff, the team will undergo medical checks, and later, on board, scientists and medical experts will monitor the condition of people in the air: sleep, food and drink consumption, physical activity, to assess the possible negative impact of the mega-flight on health.

Pilots will wear an electroencephalogram that tracks the brain and alertness.

The airline said that for the longest flight in the world, the key point will be to minimize departure delays and create an environment for a calm and pleasant flight of passengers. The same goes for the crew members.

Qantas Airways operates 17-hour flights from Perth to London. But the Project Sunrise flight, scheduled for the first time in October 2019, will be the longest in the world, taking that title away from Singapore Airlines' direct flight New York - Singapore (18 hours, 45 minutes).

If successful, Qantas will launch commercial passenger services in 2020.
