Museum-Reserve "Kizhi" received a modern storage facility
The collection of the museum has more than 45 thousand items of storage, representing the traditional culture of the peoples of Karelia. Fund collections, which were created and continue to be created by the Museum staff, are placed in various architectural monuments of Kizhi and Petrozavodsk. The museum never had specially equipped storage facilities either in the city or on the island, the collections located in Petrozavodsk roamed from room to room.
In 2006, the building of the former craft workshops (10 Kirov Square) was transferred to the museum for the creation of equipped repositories of stock collections. The building was designed in 1909 in St. Petersburg by district architect Vasily Mikhailovich Androsov, a student of Leonty Nikolaevich Benois. One-storey building, built in Petrozavodsk, is of interest as one of the preserved buildings of industrial architecture of the early XX century with the main characteristic features and features of brickwork. Therefore, one of the important conditions during the reconstruction was the preservation of the existing architectural appearance of the building and elements of the interior, relating to the construction period of the early XX century.
The historical exterior solution of the facades of the workshop building has been preserved. The one-storey building was divided into 3 levels, which allowed to increase the usable area by 3 times. At the ground floor level, premises for temporary storage of exhibits, processing of exhibits, packaging, technical rooms were placed. In the level of the 1st floor, restoration rooms of workshops, storage rooms and technical services were placed. In the level of the 2nd floor there are stock collections.
The storage facility has specially installed and installed equipment that will help to exhibit items in the open access. These are all sorts of circular display cases, rectangular, illuminated, mobile podium, mannequins, shelving cabinets with moving shelves, horizontal storage drivers, file cabinets, special safes and weapons cabinets, 7 refrigerator cabinets to ensure the necessary storage mode, etc.
